What Bluetooth actually does
Most of us already run our lives through a phone. Bluetooth lets your hearing aids join that, so the audio arrives already corrected for your hearing rather than fighting through a speaker.

What it changes day to day
The phone is the change most patients mention first. After years of pressing a handset against one ear and guessing, a caller arriving clearly in both ears is a genuinely different experience.

Bluetooth accessories
These extend what the hearing aids can reach. Two of them solve problems no hearing aid setting can fix on its own, which is why we bring them up at almost every fitting.
- TV Streamer. Connects to the television and sends dialogue straight to both devices. The single most appreciated accessory we fit.
- Remote Microphone. Clip it to the person you want to hear. In a loud restaurant this beats any built-in noise program.
- Mini Remote Microphone+. Smaller, and doubles as a wired audio input.
- Table Microphone. For a group around a table, picking up several voices at once.
- Remote. Volume and program changes without reaching for a phone.
Compatibility, in plain terms
Modern hearing aids use low-energy Bluetooth designed for long battery life. Most current models pair directly with recent iPhone and Android handsets. Older phones, some Android versions and landlines may need a small intermediary streamer, which is inexpensive but worth knowing about before you buy rather than after.
So bring your phone to the appointment. We will pair it in the office and confirm it works with the handset you actually own, rather than the one a compatibility chart assumed.
What Bluetooth does not do
Streaming quality has nothing to do with how well the devices help you in a noisy restaurant. That is down to the microphone system, the noise processing and above all the fitting. Do not let a feature list distract you from the thing you are actually buying.

Do Bluetooth hearing aids work with my iPhone or Android?
Most current models pair directly with recent iPhone and Android handsets. Bring your phone to the appointment so we can confirm with your exact device rather than a general compatibility list.
Does streaming drain the battery faster?
Yes. Heavy streaming noticeably reduces daily runtime, which is one reason we ask how much you stream before recommending a model.
Can I stream from my television?
Yes, usually with a small TV Streamer that connects to the television and sends audio to your hearing aids. It is the most appreciated accessory we fit.
Will people hear my phone call?
No. The audio goes into your ear canals. Your own voice is picked up by the hearing aid microphones, so you can talk hands-free without holding the phone.
Can I connect to a landline?
Usually with an intermediary streamer. Bring the handset details and we will tell you what is needed.
Do I have to use a smartphone to benefit?
No. The hearing aids work fully without ever pairing a phone. Streaming and app control are additions, not requirements, and plenty of our patients never use them.
