Why the ordinary answer does not work
Foam and rubber plugs block high frequencies far more than low ones. The result is that cymbals, vocal consonants and string detail disappear while the kick drum and bass stay loud. Musicians take them out because they cannot judge tone or blend, and then they are wearing nothing at all.
A musician’s filter is a small mechanical acoustic device rather than a lump of foam. It attenuates the whole spectrum by roughly the same amount, so the mix you hear is the mix that is actually happening. You hear less of it, not a different version of it.

Filters are interchangeable in the same custom shell, so if you play in more than one setting you can swap rather than buy twice.

A word to band parents and teachers
A school band room is genuinely loud, and a director stands in it for hours a day, five days a week. Cumulative exposure like that does more damage than a handful of loud gigs. If you teach music, this is a professional necessity rather than a nicety.

- You come in to collect, and we check the fit and seal before you leave
Common questions
Will musician's earplugs muffle the music?
No, and that is the whole point of them. The filter attenuates high and low frequencies by roughly the same amount, so the tonal balance survives. Ordinary plugs cut treble hardest, which is why they sound muddy.
Which filter strength should I choose?
15 dB suits most live and rehearsal work. Drummers and brass players usually want 25 dB. Acoustic players, teachers and engineers often prefer 9 dB. Tell us what you play and where, and we will advise.
Can I change the filter later?
Yes. The filters are interchangeable within the same custom shell, so you can buy a second strength rather than a second set of plugs.
How loud is a rehearsal room, really?
Amplified rehearsal commonly sits between 105 and 115 decibels, and a drum kit peaks higher. At those levels the safe unprotected exposure is minutes, not hours.
Do I need custom molds, or are universal musician's plugs enough?
Universal filtered plugs are a real improvement on foam and cost much less. Custom molds seal better, stay put on stage, and are comfortable for a three hour set, which is why most working players end up in them.
